Itemised package price

What's included: the itemised package price

Every line of the international package: what it covers, what it leaves out, and what is quoted separately. The written quote governs.

The Living Taller international package is quoted from USD 15,000 to 16,000 for bilateral tibial or bilateral femoral lengthening with LON, a standard intramedullary nail with an LRS external fixator. It includes surgery, hospital, implants, anaesthesia, tests, a psychological assessment, supervised physiotherapy in Surat, accommodation and airport transfers. You stay in Surat for the whole lengthening phase, usually six to ten weeks per stage, with supervised physiotherapy; you fly home once lengthening is complete and the frame is off, and the bone consolidates at home with remote review. It excludes flights, meals, nail removal and physiotherapy at home. The written quote after your X-ray review is the figure that applies.

Reviewed by Dr. Aman Khanna, M.S. Orthopaedics, an orthopaedic surgeon. Limb lengthening is bone surgery, not physiotherapy.

For adults aged 18 and over whose growth plates have closed.

The package

The package, line by line

Price: from USD 15,000 to 16,000, for bilateral tibial or bilateral femoral lengthening. It is a range because the written quote that follows your X-ray review is the figure that applies to you. Consultation fee INR 10,000. Surgery fees are quoted after assessment.

Included in the package

  • Surgery and anaesthesia. Surgeon, theatre and anaesthesia fees for the operation.
  • Hospitalisation. Hospital stay around surgery, with nursing care.
  • Standard intramedullary nail and LRS external fixator (LON). The implants used for lengthening over nail.
  • Imaging and monitoring. X-rays and monitoring during the Surat stay.
  • Supervised physiotherapy during the Surat stay. Sessions while you are in Surat, through the whole lengthening phase.
  • Follow-up consultations during the Surat stay. Reviews with the surgical team before you fly home.
  • Accommodation for the Surat stay. Your stay outside hospital in Surat.
  • Airport transfers. Pick-up and drop-off at the airport.
  • Pre-operative tests. Tests needed before surgery.
  • Psychological assessment. Assessment before surgery, standard for all patients.

Not included

  • Flights. Your own return flights.
  • Meals. Food and drink are your own cost.
  • Nail removal. A second operation, done after the bone has healed.
  • Physiotherapy at home during consolidation. Sessions near your home, for the months of consolidation after you fly back.

Quoted separately

  • Fitbone motorised nail. Surcharge, quoted at consultation.
  • Two-stage plan (tibia, then femur). Two packages; combined price quoted at consultation.

This is the same list as the INCLUDED and NOT INCLUDED lists in the cost calculator, which also prices flights and meals as estimates you can edit. Techniques differ between centres (LON, motorised nails, external fixators), so prices are not like-for-like. The cost page explains what moves a quote, and the cost comparison sets out sourced figures from other countries.

Included

What the included lines mean

The package covers the operation and the Surat stay. It does not cover the months of treatment that follow at home, and difficulties during lengthening are common, as the section on complications below sets out.

LON: a standard nail with an LRS frame

Lengthening over nail places an intramedullary nail in the bone and uses an external fixator, here the LRS, to lengthen the bone gradually. In a systematic review of 795 cosmetic patients, 31.8 percent were treated with LON, 33.6 percent with classic Ilizarov frames and 7.9 percent with implantable lengthening nails (PMID 32670567). The techniques differ in time in frame, cost and complication profile.

Surgery, anaesthesia, hospital

The operation, the theatre, anaesthesia and the hospital stay around surgery are in the package, together with imaging and monitoring while you are in Surat. Gains are stated as up to about 6 cm per segment and are decided from your X-rays, not promised in advance.

Tests and psychological assessment

Pre-operative tests and a psychological assessment come before a date is fixed. Candidacy is decided at consultation, and not everyone who asks is suitable. A surgeon may decline to operate after assessment.

Physiotherapy in Surat

In a study of 32 patients having femoral lengthening with the Ilizarov method, knee flexion fell quickly in the latency period before lengthening and the loss continued during lengthening, so intensive physiotherapy was advised throughout (PMID 18564473). The package covers the supervised sessions during your Surat stay. You stay in Surat for the whole lengthening phase, usually six to ten weeks per stage, with supervised physiotherapy; you fly home once lengthening is complete and the frame is off, and the bone consolidates at home with remote review.

Follow-up before you fly

Follow-up consultations during the initial stay are included. You fly home once lengthening is complete and the frame is off. What happens after you fly is set out on the aftercare when you fly home page.

Accommodation and transfers

Accommodation for the Surat stay and airport transfers are in the package, so they add nothing to the totals in the cost calculator. Meals and flights remain yours to arrange.

Not included

What the package leaves out

These four items sit outside the package price. They belong in your budget.

Flights and meals

Return flights and your meals are your own cost. The cost calculator lets you edit estimates for both, by country of residence.

Nail removal

Taking out the intramedullary nail is a second operation, done after the bone has healed. It is not in the package. It can be done on a second trip to Surat or by a surgeon in your own country, and its fee is separate either way.

Physiotherapy at home during distraction and consolidation

Consolidation continues for months after you fly home, and cosmetic cases usually need 12 to 18 months of recovery in total. Local physiotherapy and clinic visits near you are arranged and paid for by you. We brief your physiotherapist with a written protocol; see aftercare when you fly home. Lost income during recovery is also yours to plan for, and no price list includes it.

Quoted separately

Two choices that change the quote

The Fitbone motorised nail

Fitbone is a motorised internal nail with no external frame, and it is the only motorised internal nail we offer; the LON package uses a standard intramedullary nail with an external fixator. Choosing it instead of LON adds a surcharge, which is quoted at consultation. No figure for it is shown here and none is inside the USD 15,000 to 16,000 range. Other motorised nails exist on the market; they are mentioned only as context, and we make no claim that one is better than another.

A two-stage plan

Lengthening both the tibia and the femur is done in two stages, tibia then femur, with recovery between them. That is two packages, and the combined price is quoted at consultation. A second stage is advised only if your X-rays and health allow it.

If something goes wrong

If a complication extends your stay

Difficulties during limb lengthening are common, and they are the main reason a package price can change. Ask for the complication terms first.

Paley's classification separates problems, which resolve without an operation, from obstacles, which need an operation to resolve, and from complications, which are intra-operative injuries or problems still unresolved at the end of treatment (PMID 2403498). A systematic review of 795 cosmetic patients reports a mean of 0.78 problems, 0.94 obstacles and 0.15 complications per patient (PMID 32670567). A 2025 meta-analysis of 489 patients reports, for external fixation, problems in 56 percent, obstacles in 48 percent and complications in 10 percent, and for intramedullary nailing 37 percent problems and 42 percent obstacles with no significant complications reported (PMID 39801900). These are published cohorts using different techniques. They are not Living Taller results and not a prediction for you.

Each event can mean extra visits, extra nights or another procedure. In a small UK case series of seven patients who returned from limb lengthening abroad, all needed physiotherapy and two needed major corrective surgery (PMID 42229514). Your written quote states in plain words who pays for extra nights, accommodation and treatment if a complication keeps you in Surat longer or needs revision surgery. Ask for the complication terms first, in writing. The full risk picture is on the safety and risks page.

Payment stages

How payment is staged

No package payment is taken before you have a written quote. The order below is the usual sequence.

01

Question and X-ray review

You send your questions and X-rays by WhatsApp or email. A written quote follows the review. No package payment is taken at this stage.

02

Video consultation and assessment

A video consultation with the surgeon, then the psychological assessment. Candidacy is decided here, and either side can stop.

03

Reservation payment

A reservation payment is taken to confirm a surgery date; the amount and schedule are stated in your written quote, which also says how it counts toward the package price.

04

Balance

The balance and its due dates are stated in your written quote, in the same currency as the quote.

Refunds and currency

Refunds, cancellation and currency

Refund and cancellation

Refund and cancellation terms are set out in your written quote, which you receive before any payment is made. Read them first. They should answer three questions: what happens to the reservation payment if you cancel, if the surgeon declines to operate after assessment, and if you cannot travel on the date reserved.

Currency note

The package is quoted in US dollars, and the consultation fee is in Indian rupees. Your bank's exchange rate, card fees and transfer charges are yours and vary by day. The cost calculator uses fixed, dated exchange rates and says so; they are indicative, not a quote. Which currencies are accepted for payment, and when the rate is fixed, is stated in your written quote.

Before you pay anyone

Questions to ask any clinic about a package price

Ask each clinic for its list. Put these questions to every clinic you consider, including us, and ask for the answers in writing.

  • Which technique is it, and who performs the surgery?
  • Is the quote for one leg or both legs, and for the tibia or the femur?
  • Are hospital, anaesthesia, implants, tests and the psychological assessment all in the price?
  • Is accommodation included, and for how many nights?
  • What happens, and who pays, if a complication needs extra nights or another operation?
  • Who does the aftercare when you are home, and how often are X-rays reviewed?
  • What is the refund and cancellation wording if you cancel, or if the surgeon declines to operate after assessment?
  • Which currency is the price in, and when is the exchange rate fixed?

FAQ

Questions about the package

What is included in the limb lengthening package price?

The package is quoted from USD 15,000 to 16,000 for bilateral tibial or bilateral femoral lengthening with LON. It includes surgery and anaesthesia, hospitalisation, the standard intramedullary nail and LRS external fixator, pre-operative tests, a psychological assessment, imaging and monitoring, supervised physiotherapy and follow-up consultations during the Surat stay, accommodation for that stay and airport transfers.

What is not included in the package?

Flights, meals, nail removal, and physiotherapy at home during consolidation are not included. The Fitbone motorised nail is a surcharge quoted at consultation, and a two-stage plan (tibia, then femur) is two packages with a combined price quoted at consultation.

How firm is the package price?

It is quoted as a range, from USD 15,000 to 16,000, because the written quote that follows your X-ray review is the figure that applies to you. Candidacy is decided at consultation, and not everyone who asks is suitable. Consultation fee INR 10,000. Surgery fees are quoted after assessment.

Does the package cover complications or revision surgery?

Difficulties during lengthening are common in published series (PMID 32670567), and some need further treatment. Your written quote states in plain words who pays for extra nights, accommodation and treatment if a complication keeps you in Surat longer or needs revision surgery. Ask for the complication terms first, in writing.

How is payment staged?

A reservation payment is taken to confirm a surgery date, after your X-ray review, video consultation and psychological assessment. The amount and schedule, the balance and its due dates are stated in your written quote. Refund and cancellation terms are also set out there, so read them before you pay.

How much does the Fitbone nail add?

Fitbone is a motorised internal nail with no external frame, and it is the only motorised internal nail we offer; the LON package uses a standard intramedullary nail with an external fixator. Choosing it adds a surcharge that is quoted at consultation, so no figure is shown on this page and none is included in the package range.

Can I have both the tibia and the femur lengthened?

Yes, in two stages, not at once. A tibia stage and a femur stage are two packages, and the combined price is quoted at consultation. Whether a second stage is advisable is decided from your X-rays, with gains of up to about 6 cm per segment.
