How to check a limb lengthening surgeon's registration, the hospital's accreditation, the qualifications and the consent process, using public sources and not our word.

Reviewed by Dr. Aman Khanna, M.S. Orthopaedics, an orthopaedic surgeon. Limb lengthening is bone surgery, not physiotherapy.

To verify a surgeon in India, search the National Medical Commission's Indian Medical Register by name or registration number. Dr. Aman Khanna's Gujarat Medical Council number is G30260. Check the hospital's accreditation on the accrediting body's own portal, and ask to see original certificates. This page also shows our consent steps, our empty outcome table and ten questions to put to any limb lengthening provider, including us.

Limb lengthening is a planned orthopaedic operation with real risks and a recovery of 12 to 18 months in cosmetic cases. It is offered to adults aged 18 and over whose growth plates have closed, and candidacy is decided at consultation from your X-rays; the answer can be no.

1. The surgeon

Check the surgeon's registration.

Dr. Aman Khanna is registered with the Gujarat Medical Council under number G30260, which is also published on his orthopaedic practice website.

  1. Open the National Medical Commission's Indian Medical Register (page checked 9 October 2026).
  2. Search by name, year of registration, registration number or state medical council. Select the Gujarat Medical Council and enter Aman Khanna or G30260.
  3. Compare the name, qualification and registration year shown with the table in section 3.
  4. For the council itself, see the Gujarat Medical Council website.

A registration confirms that a doctor may practise. It says nothing about surgical results; sections 4 and 5 deal with those.

The full profile is on the surgeon page.

2. The hospital

Check the hospital's accreditation.

Surgery takes place at Mahavir Hospital, Mahavir Health Campus, Ring Rd, Athwa Gate, Surat 395001.

What the hospital's own website says

When we checked on 9 October 2026, the hospital's own website stated no NABH, JCI or ISO accreditation. We therefore do not claim any. If that changes, the certificate will be shown here with its number.

How to check any hospital

  1. NABH (India): use the NABH Find an Accredited Healthcare Organisation page. Filter by state, city and speciality. The portal notes that some information may be temporarily incomplete, so also ask the hospital for its certificate number.
  2. JCI (international): Joint Commission International publishes a directory of accredited organisations, searchable by country and name.
  3. Accreditation belongs to a named unit with its own certificate, and has an expiry date. Check that the name, address and dates match the unit where surgery would take place.
3. Qualifications

Check the degrees, fellowship and papers.

What is claimedWhere you can check it
M.S. Orthopaedics, Government Medical College, SuratThe qualification recorded on the medical register, and the degree certificate, which you can ask to see in the original at consultation
Sports medicine, hip and knee fellowship, Lyon Croix-Rousse University Hospital, France (2021)The fellowship certificate, shown at consultation
Two peer-reviewed spine-surgery papersPubMed, PMID 35992978 (Malays Orthop J, 2022) and PubMed, PMID 37663183 (Rev Bras Ortop, 2023)

Neither paper reports limb lengthening results. They show research method and peer review, not lengthening outcomes. A fellowship or degree is a document; verify it with the issuing institution if you want certainty.

5. Results

Our outcome reporting commitment.

We will publish an audited series of our own limb lengthening results, reported in the table below with complications graded as in the literature. The table is empty because the series has not been published.

Outcome table, first audited series
MeasureHow it will be definedFirst audited series
Patients treatedNumber of patients, with age rangeNot yet published
Segments lengthenedTibia and femur counted separatelyNot yet published
Mean gainMean and range in cm per segment, from measured X-raysNot yet published
ProblemsDifficulties resolved without an operation (Paley)Not yet published
ObstaclesDifficulties needing an operation to resolve (Paley)Not yet published
ComplicationsInjuries during surgery, or problems unresolved at the end of treatment (Paley)Not yet published
ReoperationsUnplanned operations after the first, by causeNot yet published
Follow-upMonths of follow-up after nail removalNot yet published

First audited series: to be published; until then, literature figures (see the risks and complications page). Problems, obstacles and complications follow Paley's classification (PMID 2403498).

Why an audited series and not testimonials.

A testimonial shows one person's experience and says nothing about how often problems occur. An audited series reports every patient treated, so complication and reoperation rates can be read and compared. The National Medical Commission's advertising guidelines of 6 October 2026 also bar doctors from requesting or sharing patient testimonials, so we publish none.

6. Documents

Ask us for the documents.

You can read the paperwork before you decide anything. On request we send:

  • A sample operation protocol, showing the steps of the planned operation
  • The implant brochure for the nail and frame used
  • A sample itemised quote, with inclusions, exclusions and items quoted separately
  • A sample consent form, including the risk sheet
7. Questions

Ten questions to ask any limb lengthening provider.

Put these to us and to every other clinic you consider. A provider who answers in writing, with numbers, is easier to compare.

  1. Who will operate on me? Ask for the name of the operating surgeon, not the clinic's lead consultant, and check that name on the medical register of the country where the surgery happens.
  2. How many limb lengthening cases has that surgeon done? Ask for a number, and for how many used the same method and implant you are being offered.
  3. Which implant is used, and who makes it? Ask for the brand, the manufacturer and the regulatory status of the nail or frame, and whether it is a motorised or a standard nail.
  4. What are your complication rates, in writing? Ask for problems, obstacles and complications reported separately, with the number of patients behind them. Published literature figures are not a clinic's own results.
  5. What happens if a nail or implant breaks? Ask who decides, where the revision is done, and who pays.
  6. Who do I call at 3 am when I am back home? Ask for a named person and a written pathway, not a general inbox. See the aftercare page for ours.
  7. What is the price, itemised? Ask for a written list of what is included, what is excluded and what is quoted separately. Our own is on what is included.
  8. What does a revision operation cost? Ask whether a second operation for a complication is priced, and by whom, before you pay a deposit.
  9. Is the hospital accredited, and by whom? Ask for the certificate for the specific unit, then check it with the accrediting body. Do not rely on a logo.
  10. What is the consent process? Ask when you will receive the written risk sheet, whether a psychological assessment is part of it, and whether a date is fixed before you have consented.
Questions

Verification, answered.

How do I verify a surgeon's registration in India?

Open the National Medical Commission's Indian Medical Register at nmc.org.in, search by name or registration number, and select the state medical council. Dr. Aman Khanna is registered with the Gujarat Medical Council under number G30260. A registration shows that a doctor may practise; it does not describe surgical results.

Is Mahavir Hospital Surat NABH accredited?

We do not claim NABH or JCI accreditation for the hospital. When we checked on 9 October 2026, the hospital's own website stated no NABH, JCI or ISO accreditation. Accreditation belongs to a named unit with its own certificate, so check the unit where surgery would take place on the NABH portal and ask us for the certificate before you travel.

How can I check a surgeon's degree or fellowship?

A registration entry lists the qualifications the state council recorded. Degree and fellowship certificates are the primary documents; you can ask to see the originals at consultation. Published papers can be checked on PubMed, which lists authors, journal and year.

Why do you publish no testimonials or patient reviews?

The National Medical Commission's advertising guidelines of 6 October 2026 do not allow doctors to request or share patient testimonials, and they restrict before and after images. We publish an empty outcome table that will be filled from an audited series, and literature figures with PMIDs until then.

What documents can I ask you to send before I decide?

On request we send a sample operation protocol, the implant brochure, a sample itemised quote and a sample consent form. Message us on WhatsApp or email and say which you would like. Consultation fee INR 10,000. Surgery fees are quoted after assessment.
